MRHS Boosters 2015 Senior Scholarships
Every year since 2008, the MRHS Boosters Club has awarded a scholarship to a senior who made a significant difference during their time at Marriotts Ridge High School. This year, Boosters is pleased to be able to extend two scholarships of $2000 each to two very deserving students. Students are nominated by community members, staff, coaches, parents, and student peers in December. Nominated students are then eligible to apply for the scholarships. Applications are due in February. The applications are reviewed by a selection committee and winners will be announced in May.
Our 2014 award winners were: Amanda Miller and Christine Shen.
Amanda came to MRHS in 10th grade. Since that very beginning she has involved herself in supporting others. Nominated by her coach and teacher, Amanda Brady and Kristina White, they describe her as “someone who is always attentive and kind to others and their needs.” She volunteers in the academic life skills classes, and a member of the allied bowling team. Amanda was also a member of the varsity soccer team for a year, the varsity cross country team for two years, the varsity basketball team for two years and the varsity lacrosse team since she came to MRHS three years ago. In all these pursuits she demonstrates her “wonderful character” being nurturing, positive and encouraging. She is a “phenomenal role-model” for all those who know her.
Christine has been part of MRHS since freshman year and has made an impact in multitude of school groups. To quote from her French teacher Tekyia Brower, “she is dedicated, intelligent, leads by example and inspires others”. She is a member of several National honor societies and a National Merit Commended Scholar. She is a veteran member of Model UN, an officer of Science Olympiad, Captain of Its Academic and a tutor for Homework Club. She also serves on the relay team for Outdoor Track and as flutist for the marching band and wind ensemble, and the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra. One particular accomplishment is founding Key Club. To quote, “as a sophomore, she recognized the need for students at MRHS to give back to their community and co-founded Key Club. She is a superb, positive role model helping Key Club grow to be one of the most active clubs at MRHS having over 100 members from all grades participating in a variety of service projects.
Congratulations to Amanda Miller and Christine Shen!
